Application Process

A retiring employee must complete an application to be considered for emeritus status.

  1. The application for emeritus status is submitted to the Employee’s supervisor, who will review it and, if approved, will forward the application along with a letter of recommendation to the unit’s Supervising Executive for review.

  2. The Supervising Executive and President will review the application and forward the names of recommended applicants to the Board for approval.

  3. The President’s Office will send a formal decision letter to those who have been granted emeritus status.

Applications for emeritus status will be accepted anytime throughout the academic year but must be received by the employee’s supervisor no later than April 1st of each academic year. Emeritus applications must be submitted within the academic year of retirement. Board decisions on emeritus status will be made by May 1st of each year.

Discontinuance of Emeritus Status

Emeritus Employees can request to discontinue emeritus status at any time. The College also reserves the right to rescind emeritus status when it is in the best interests of the College.

Denial of Application and Review

Should a supervisor deny an Employee’s application, a rationale will be provided to the applicant. If desired, the Employee has the option of requesting an application review by the Supervising Executive.
