The College intends to control room temperatures using the building systems to maximize energy efficiency, minimize costs, reduce emissions, and increase the safety of building inhabitants.

Using portable electric space heaters increases the risk of fire, damage to other equipment, and potential injury. Therefore, strict guidelines must be established and maintained for personal space heaters.

Electric space heaters may only be used when there is a need for an additional degree of comfort over and above what a facility's heating system can deliver. Approval for an Employee to bring a portable electric space heater into College Premises will only be granted after Maintenance is notified of the cold condition through the submission of a Maintenance request and has attempted to raise the temperature in the area. Still, such attempts have not resolved the issue.

Space heaters are personal items and must be provided by the Employee if approved.
