The College’s mission is to provide flexible education in a supportive environment. Flexible education courses are delivered using a variety of teaching and learning modalities. The Next Generation Learning Committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending to the President/District Director the College’s definitions of flexible education.
FACE-TO-FACE
This option meets one or more times weekly in a face-to-face classroom, laboratory, clinical site, etc. It may be expected that assignments or other learning activities are completed online. Due dates will be required and communicated within the course syllabus.
HYBRID
Course content is delivered in a blend of face-to-face and online sessions. At least 50% of the content is delivered online. Due dates will be required and communicated within the course syllabus.
ONLINE
This course's content is delivered online, although in-person or videoconference proctored testing or assessment may be required. These activities will have flexible times and locations. Due dates will be required and communicated within the course syllabus.
MYEDCHOICE
This option allows students to choose how to attend each class session and does not lock them into one format. In a MyEdChoice class, students have the option to attend:
Face-to-face at a set class time, or
Live during class time using video conferencing, or
Asynchronously online.
Students can choose how they attend class based on what works best for their learning. All options will have required due dates, which will be communicated in the course syllabus.
FLEXLAB (Flexible Laboratory)
This option allows Students to attend when it is most convenient for them, within the designated open lab hours.
FLEXIBLE EDUCATION TEACHING AND LEARNING INSTRUCTIONAL STANDARDS
Every College course, regardless of instructional modality, uses the online learning management system to organize course content, manage course work, and assess student learning.
Faculty teaching an academic course are expected to ensure:
Course quality and learning goals are consistent across all delivery modes and locations.
Course syllabi are uploaded into the learning management system per Procedure I-210.1 – Standard Syllabus.
Students enrolled in an academic course are expected to:
Access course content digitally.
Submit assignments online.
Access up-to-date grade information within the learning management system.
The College provides spaces and equipment on each campus to facilitate online participation, including computer labs, campus-wide wi-fi, and help desk support for personal devices.
